Joseph Brant Hospital Annual Report 2023-2024

2023-2024 Annual Report to the Community

Message from our Leadership

Over the past year, we have laid a strong foundation for a period of transformative change at Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH).

Guided by our ambitious 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, we continue to implement exciting and innovative projects and advance initiatives designed to enhance the quality of care we provide. These include embedding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into all aspects of our organization, ensuring timely care close to home through the redevelopment and expansion of our Mental Health and Addiction (MHA) program space, and embarking on our journey to introduce a new digital clinical health information system to enhance patient care and the patient experience.

Our success to date would not be possible without strong partnerships. Collaborations with our community healthcare partners, members of the Patient and Family Advisory Council, and Burlington business and community leaders are vital. These relationships enable JBH to continue to provide patients and their families with person-centered, high-quality care.

Careful planning for the future healthcare needs of our patients and families is a top priority. JBH is currently undertaking a comprehensive capital planning review that includes creating capacity for future healthcare needs of our community.

Reflecting on our accomplishments from the past year, we are proud to highlight some of the incredible ongoing work that is taking place at JBH through this report. On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Directors, we extended our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our incredible staff, physicians, learners, volunteers, and partners for your dedication to providing exemplary care to our patients and their families. We also extend our deepest gratitude to our patients and families, donors and community for their steadfast support throughout our journey.

JBH Strategic Plan 2023-2026

In late 2022, we embarked on a journey to develop a new Strategic Plan for Joseph Brant Hospital, engaging our people, patients, families, healthcare partners and the broader community in a collaborative process to chart our path forward over the next three years.

With our new three-year plan in place, our organization has worked hard over the past year to implement each of our four Strategic Directions. Click here to learn more.

Hand and Upper Limb Clinic: Jeff's Story

While officiating a football game, the unexpected happened. During a routine catch of the ball from another officiant, Jeff broke his right finger – splintering the bone between the middle and top joint. Immediately, he knew something was wrong.

After arriving at Joseph Brant Hospital, he was referred to Dr. Paul Carter, a Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon, who was able to manipulate Jeff’s finger back into alignment and avoid surgery. Click here to learn more.

Strategic Direction #2 Nurture and Support Our People

New JBH Well-Being Strategy

Joseph Brant Hospital believes that a healthy and supported workforce is the foundation upon which our people can thrive and provide the best possible care to our patients and community.  In the fall of 2023, we launched the JBH Well-Being Strategy, which has already had a tremendous impact on our staff, physicians, learners, and volunteers.

Over the past year, we have introduced several programs, held events, established collaborations and formed strategic partnerships with other organizations –all dedicated to supporting our people’s health and well-being in the workplace and beyond.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at JBH

“Embed Diversity, Equity and Inclusion into all we do at Joseph Brant Hospital” is a key priority of our 2023-2026 Strategic Plan; one that we believe strongly will help us achieve a thriving culture of belonging where our people and patients feel safe, respected and can flourish.

Central to this important work is JBH’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Action Table (DEIAT). The Action Table draws on the personal experiences and engagement of our employees, physicians, volunteers, members of JBH’s leadership team, patients, and members of our community. Members of DEIAT have been instrumental in informing and developing resources and policies, as well as, our new DEI Strategic Framework that will guide us as we continue to work to embed DEI in all aspects of the organization.
